Who We Are
Beyond the Goal Foundation
Is a community-led nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering children and youth in Baba Dogo – Nairobi, by providing access to education, mentorship, sports, and community development initiatives.
While officially registered as a Community-Based Organization (CBO) in 2018, our programs gained significant momentum in 2020, expanding in reach and impact. We focus on breaking systemic cycles of poverty by providing sustainable solutions that address education disparities, economic hardship, gender inequality, and environmental challenges.
At the heart of our mission is the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed, regardless of their socio-economic background. Through our holistic approach, we not only support individual children but also empower entire communities by fostering economic opportunities, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
Working at the grassroots level, we collaborate with schools, communities, local leaders, and partners to ensure that the most disadvantaged populations have access to critical resources, life-changing opportunities, and the support they need to thrive.
Why We Exist
Challenges Faced by Communities in Slums & Rural Areas
Poverty & Limited Opportunities
Many households survive on less than $1 a day, with no access to quality education, healthcare, or job opportunities.
High Dropout Rates & Unemployment
Children drop out of school due to financial struggles, while many adults lack stable employment.
Teen Pregnancies & Early Marriages
Young girls are forced into marriages, while period poverty prevents many from attending school.
Crime, Drug Abuse & Violence
Limited recreational facilities and safe spaces increase exposure to gang involvement, crime, and substance abuse.
Environmental Challenges
Poor waste management and deforestation threaten the health and sustainability of communities.
At Beyond the Goal Foundation, we tackle these challenges head-on, working directly with communities, schools, and local leaders to create lasting, community-driven change.
Our Mission
To promote the sustainable development of communities.
Our Vision
A world where communities thrive through education, empowerment, and sustainable opportunities, ensuring every child and their community can reach their fullest potential.
Meet the Team
Susan Zighe
Program Director
Susan holds a Bachelor of Education (Arts) from Kenyatta University, where she trained as a teacher. With more than 15 years of experience in community service and development, she has dedicated her life to supporting children and empowering underserved communities.
Her greatest passion lies with the children of the foundation, to whom she gives her time, energy, and love every single day. For Susan, this is not just work — it is her life’s calling.
Originally from Taita County, Susan found her second family and true home in the Baba Dogo community in Nairobi, which embraced her as one of their own. Today, she is a respected leader, mentor, and source of inspiration for both the children and the wider community.
Julius Otieno
Football Coach
Born and raised in Baba Dogo, Julius is a true pillar of his community. Everyone respects him for his tireless dedication to children and for the way he teaches life values through football.
A certified football coach by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Julius has transformed the life of countless aspiring footballers. Under his leadership, the team has brought home multiple titles and trophies, becoming a source of pride for the whole neighborhood.
But Julius’ greatest legacy goes beyond the medals. He has been especially committed to developing girls’ football, opening doors that were once closed. Thanks to his mentorship, many girls have earned scholarships and new opportunities, proving that sport can change lives.
From the kids he has known since they were babies to the young athletes he guides today, Julius inspires discipline, teamwork, and hope — both on and off the pitch. He is not only a coach but a role model whose influence reaches far beyond the football field.
